When Bill and Roberta Parker made an appointment with our Homes Consultant Viola, they had their hearts set on purchasing one of our Maclean mini homes. “Then Viola told us we should look at this brand new model, the Jasper. We loved it straight away,” says Roberta, After placing the home at Springfield Estates and moving in this past August, the couple couldn’t be more content with their purchase. “We’re very happy here,” Roberta says, “and everything about our home is beautiful. We built a deck off the back and I love sitting out there with the dog and my e-books. For retirees like us, this is just perfect. Our home has everything we need.”
The last home that Bill and Roberta lived in was the two-story four-bedroom house complete with a garage, shed, and “too much stuff” that they raised their family in. They knew they wanted to move to a one-level home to help their “creaky knees.” Though downsizing did require getting rid of a lot of stuff, they feel like the Jasper is plenty big enough. “We have a dedicated spare room, a cat/ junk room, and a lovely big master bedroom,” Roberta says.
At the start of their marriage, back in 1978, the couple bought a new mini home in our Woodbine community. The Jasper is certainly different from the home they had then. “It’s not like the old-style mini homes where you walk in and the whole place is right there. We’ve got the entryway where you come in and a place for your coats and your boots. There are atrium ceilings in the living room and dining room, and just so much light in our home,” Roberta says. “We even have a mudroom, which is especially useful when you’re trying to bring the dog and it’s raining,” says Bill.
The Jasper’s floorplan was especially appealing to the couple because of the way the rooms are divided up it feels like a long bungalow. “We really like that in the living room there’s a pocket door so you can close off the spare bedroom and bathroom, so if someone’s staying with us they’ve got privacy,” Bill says. “And, because it’s frosted glass windows in the pocket door they can dance around naked down there and we’d never know,” quips Roberta.
Roberta loves how the kitchen offers plenty of counter space, nice light that comes in over the sink, and “a beautiful little coffee nook just over by the fridge,” She says there’s nothing she’d change about the space, except that the dining table she couldn’t bear to part with doesn’t quite fit in the space. “It has the children’s homework scratched into it,” says Bill, “So how can we get rid of that?”
Since they moved into Springfield Estates, Bill and Roberta have met lots of their neighbours and say that everyone they’ve talked to has been really friendly. “I like that this community isn’t too big,” Roberta says, “It feels just like a little subdivision.”
When friends ask them about their home-buying experience, Roberta says that she is quick to recommend people give Viola a call. “She was always there, always cheerful and upbeat. She’s a wonderful person,” Roberta says, “Everyone we’ve dealt with at Havill’s has been so nice, and the service team has been so professional and very friendly. Everyone is so helpful.”
