As we get older, the desire to live in a big property with a huge yard often starts to lose its appeal, especially once your kids are grown and there’s simply too much house for this stage of your life. That’s what happened to Sandra and Bill Collier, who had lived in a mini home earlier in their marriage, and knew that moving back into one was the most logical thing to do.
“We’d started looking at used mini homes, but we found that there were so many problems with the ones we were looking at, and the prices weren’t much lower than buying a new one,” says Sandra, “So we decided to meet with Viola and check out the Jasper initially.” After touring the Jasper, the couple went with a different model, and in May 2024, they moved into a gorgeous new Tennycape mini home at Ten Beaches Estates.
Sandra was drawn to the Tennycape because of its spacious and modern open floorplan. “We do a lot of entertaining and I love being able to be in the kitchen and talk to my guests in the living room,” she says, “It’s a two-bedroom plus den that’s just perfect for us — the den is set up as my craft room.”
They absolutely love living at Ten Beaches. While Sandra is retired, Bill still works in the city and though technically it was only a 15-minute drive to work, his commute is a lot shorter since they’ve moved. “We were living in West Bedford, which has become so built up in recent years that the traffic meant his commute home sometimes took an hour. Now he just jumps on the highway and it’s an easy half-hour drive home to Ten Beaches.
Having less property to look after is also making life easier for Sandra and Bill. “Our yard was 75 ft by 200 ft, here our outdoor space is just the right size, and much more manageable,” Sandra says.
Sandra loves how quiet it is living on the South Shore, and says that they’ve met so many nice people at Ten Beaches. “We go to their parties and they come to our parties,” she says, adding that they didn’t expect to fit into the community this easily and so quickly.
